Countries

Search Console clicks and impressions by the searcher's country, compared with the previous period, with a change chart and average position per country.

The Countries report splits your Search Console traffic by the country of the person searching. Each row shows the country with its flag, Search Console's three-letter code and its name, then clicks, impressions, CTR and average position for the range, compared with the earlier period. Use it to see which markets carry your search traffic and where it is growing or shrinking.

Reading the table

Columns are Country, Clicks, Impressions, CTR (from the column button), Avg Ranking and, when comparing, Prev Ranking, with All, Winning and Losing tabs. The change chart under the table starts with a threshold of 20 clicks rather than 10, which keeps very small markets out of it until you lower the threshold.

Search Console identifies countries with three-letter ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes (API reference), and the same codes work in filters: add a Country condition such as equals deu to focus any other report, or the whole dashboard, on one market.

Countries in Search Console and in GA4

This report counts clicks and impressions in Google's results by where the searcher was. Google Analytics counts sessions on your site by where the visitor was, so the two measure different things and rarely match row for row. Use the GA4 Countries report for engagement and conversions by country, and this one for search demand.

Practical uses

  • Markets worth a language. A country with many impressions but a weak position or CTR can be a sign that people there search in a language your site does not offer. The Internationalization report looks at this in depth, and the content engine can publish every article in each of your site's languages (translation).
  • Seasonal or local drops. A fall concentrated in one country points to a local cause, such as a holiday, a local competitor or a regional result format, rather than a site-wide problem.
  • One market at a time. Save a filter such as Country equals gbr for each market you sell in, then pick it from the Filter panel before reading other reports (saved filters).
