Bing Webmaster Tools reports
Save your Bing Webmaster Tools API key once to see Bing clicks, rankings, crawl health and crawl issues for each property next to its Google data.
AutoPSEO reads Bing Webmaster Tools through Bing's own API, so each property can show how the same site performs in Bing beside its Google numbers: clicks and impressions, the queries and pages behind them, crawl health, URL submission quota and crawl issues. You need a Bing Webmaster Tools API key, saved once for your AutoPSEO account, and a Bing site matched to each Search Console property.
How to connect Bing Webmaster Tools
- In Bing Webmaster Tools, add and verify your site if it is not there yet. Then open Settings → API Access, accept the terms the first time, and choose Generate API Key. Microsoft's access guide notes that a key belongs to a user, not a site, and covers every site you have verified.
- In AutoPSEO, open the property and choose Bing Overview under Analytics in the sidebar. Until a key is saved, the page shows Bing not configured with the connection form.
- Paste the key into Bing Webmaster Tools API key. Test asks Bing for your sites and says how many it found; Save stores the key.
- On saving, AutoPSEO looks for one of your verified Bing sites that matches the property. A domain property matches the same domain or a subdomain of it, preferring the bare domain and https. A URL-prefix property matches the same host, preferring the same protocol.
- If nothing matches, choose the site under Bing site for this property and click Map site.
The Bing site in use is named at the top right of every Bing report, with an auto badge when it was matched for you. Property Setup also shows which Bing site the property is mapped to.
Who can change the connection
- The key belongs to the property owner's account. It is stored encrypted, reused for every property that owner has, and only shown masked afterwards.
- Only the owner can change the key or the site mapping. Anyone else with access to the property sees the Bing reports through the owner's key.
- The Connection button on Bing Overview reopens the form to test a new key, map a different site or Remove the key, after which every Bing report shows the not-configured prompt again.
- On the demo property the reports show sample data and the form is disabled.
The four Bing reports
- Bing Overview: totals, Bing's share of your clicks, top queries and pages, new rankings, linked pages, crawl health, submission quota and the main crawl issues.
- Bing Queries: every query Bing reports, compared with the previous period and with Google's position for the same query.
- Bing Pages: the same view by page, matched to Google by path.
- Bing Crawl Issues: every URL Bing flagged while crawling, grouped by issue type.
How fresh the Bing data is
AutoPSEO keeps Bing's answers for 12 hours and your list of Bing sites for one hour, so a change in Bing Webmaster Tools can take that long to show. Bing itself refreshes query statistics weekly, according to its GetQueryStats reference, so query and page figures arrive in dated buckets rather than day by day. When Bing returns only one all-time bucket, the comparison with the previous period stays empty and the status line under the report says so.
When Bing returns an error
- Bing rejected the API key: the key was mistyped, deleted or regenerated. Generate a new one under Settings → API Access and save it again.
- Bing does not know this site for the API key: the mapped site is not verified for the account the key belongs to. Map one of the verified sites instead.
- None of the sites in your Bing Webmaster Tools account matches this property: pick the right site in the form, or add and verify it in Bing first.
- Bing Webmaster API rate limit reached: wait a minute and reload.
Bing also accepts new and changed URLs through IndexNow, which AutoPSEO can send for you: see IndexNow.
