Filters, dates & privacy

One date picker and one Filter panel drive every AutoPSEO report: ranges, comparisons, dimension filters, branded split, search type and saved filters.

Any report → Filter and date range4 min read

Every AutoPSEO report reads the same two controls: the date button, which also sets the comparison period, and the Filter panel. Both are kept in the page address, so a link you copy opens the same view for a colleague. Links inside a report, such as SHOW ALL or a query's detail page, keep them too; the sidebar opens each report on its defaults. This page explains each option, the saved filters built on them, and the Privacy Blur switch for screenshots.

Date ranges

The date button offers Last 7, 14 and 28 days; Last 3, 6, 8, 12 and 16 months; Year to date; Last month; Last quarter; and Custom range. Last month and Last quarter mean the previous whole calendar month or quarter, not the last 30 or 90 days. Reports open on the last 28 days.

Live Search Console reports stop at 16 months, because that is all Google keeps. Reports that read Google Analytics or a property's stored history also offer 24, 36 and 48 months.

Ranges end on the newest complete day, which the picker marks as "1 day delay". Google says its data is normally available within 2 to 3 days and that daily figures follow Pacific Time (Search Console Help). AutoPSEO requests Google's finalised data only, so the last day or two can look low until Google finishes processing them. Live results are kept for up to 12 hours, so a report you reopen later the same day loads straight away.

Comparison periods

Compare to has four settings:

SettingCompares the range with
Previous PeriodThe same number of days immediately before it
Previous MonthThe same dates one calendar month earlier (31 March maps to the last day of February)
Year Over YearThe same dates one year earlier
DisabledNothing: change badges and the Winning and Losing tabs disappear

Match weekdays shifts the comparison by whole weeks instead (364 days for a year), so Mondays line up with Mondays. Switch it on for sites whose traffic follows the working week. New & Lost Rankings and Rank Changes only work with a comparison.

The Filter panel

Dimension filters

Add conditions on Query, Page, Country, Device or Search appearance, using contains, does not contain, equals, does not equal, matches regex or does not match regex. A row must meet every condition. Countries use Search Console's three-letter codes (gbr, deu, usa) and devices are DESKTOP, MOBILE or TABLET. Regular expressions are passed to Google as you type them, and Google reads them as RE2 patterns (API reference).

Branded traffic

All queries, Branded only or Non-branded only. A query counts as branded when it contains any term saved under Property Setup → Branded Keywords, ignoring case. With no terms saved the setting has nothing to match, and the report keeps showing every query.

Search type

Web, Image, Video, News, Discover or Google News. Reports use Web unless you pick another.

Quick filters

One-click patterns that add to your own conditions; hover one to see what it matches:

  • Intent: Questions, Informational, Navigational, Transactional, Comparison, Local, Negative
  • Query shape: Years, 1-2 words, 4+ words
  • Page type: PDF only, # Page URLs

Apply reloads the report with your choices and Clear removes them. Active filters appear as chips under the report title.

Saved filters

Save filter stores the panel's current conditions under a name. Saved in a property, they appear under Saved filters in the Filter panel of every report for that property; delete them under Property Setup → Saved Filters. Filters saved on My Sites, and those you create on the Default Filters page in the main sidebar, belong to your whole account and appear in the Filter panel of every property.

The Default Filters page is where account-wide filters are named, edited and deleted. Its switch marks a filter as a default, and the page warns when two enabled defaults demand exact matches on different values of one dimension (Country equals usa in one, gbr in the other), since no row could pass both. Reports still apply a filter only when it is chosen in the Filter panel or carried in the link.

Searching within a table

Each table has a search box of its own. It narrows the rows already loaded without asking Google again, so it answers instantly but cannot find rows the report did not fetch.

Privacy Blur

The Privacy Blur switch at the foot of the sidebar blurs site names, URLs, queries, email addresses and avatars throughout the app while the numbers stay readable. Use it for screenshots, demos and screen sharing; it stays on until you switch it off.
