Index Tracker: monitor the indexing of your key URLs every day

Track the Google indexing status of up to 1,800 URLs per property, catch pages that drop out of the index, and get alerted in Slack, Teams or a webhook.

The Index Tracker (shown as Indexing Tracker in the app) watches a list of URLs you care about and re-inspects them through Google's URL Inspection API on a schedule, so you learn that a page fell out of Google's index when it happens rather than when its traffic is already gone. Each property can track up to 1,800 URLs, and every check is kept for the Index Tracker Reports.

Choose the URLs to track

Pick the pages whose disappearance would hurt: revenue pages, top landing pages, new articles you are waiting on. Press Choose URLs for the guided picker:

  • Top URLs by Clicks: your pages with the most clicks over the last 1 month, 3 months or 6 months, listed with their clicks and impressions so you can see what you are committing to.
  • From Sitemap: the URLs of a sitemap you enter.
  • Manual: paste a list.

Tick rows one by one or use Select: Top 100, Top 500 or Top 1,800, then Add selected. The page shows how many slots are left.

The tracker page itself also has an Add URLs to track panel for quick additions: paste or load a TXT/CSV file, take the top 50 to 1,000 pages by clicks of the last 28 days, or load a sitemap. Only URLs that belong to the property are accepted, duplicates are ignored, and anything beyond the 1,800 limit is skipped with a message.

How the scan works

Once a day AutoPSEO inspects tracked URLs for every property whose Daily scan is running:

  • Up to 200 URLs per property are checked per day: URLs never checked come first, then the ones checked longest ago. With 200 or fewer tracked URLs every URL is checked daily; with 1,800 the scan works through the list in about nine days.
  • The scan stops early enough to leave at least 100 inspections of the day's 2,000 for your own use.
  • A property is skipped while the scan is paused or while its Google connection needs to be authorised again.

Check now inspects every enabled URL straight away, oldest checks first, 25 at a time, and stops when the daily quota runs out. The toggle at the top pauses or resumes the daily scan for the whole property, and each row has its own switch: a disabled URL keeps its history but is no longer checked. Removing a URL takes it off the list and out of the reports.

While your Google connection is read-only, the tracker page asks for Search Console's full permission; grant it with Enable full access.

Statuses and warnings

Every URL shows its latest Status: Indexed (Google's verdict PASS), Not indexed (FAIL or NEUTRAL), Error (the inspection failed) or Not checked yet. Next to it, Google's coverage state gives the reason, for example "Crawled - currently not indexed" or "Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user".

Three warnings flag the rows that need attention:

  • Deindexed: not indexed now, but indexed at a check within the last 30 days.
  • Stale crawl: still indexed, but Google last crawled it 120 or more days ago.
  • Error: the last inspection did not return a result.

Health score

The Health score card combines three rates into a number from 0 to 100:

60% × index rate + 25% × fresh-crawl rate + 15% × warning-free rate

The index rate and fresh-crawl rate (crawled within the last 30 days) are measured over the URLs with a known status; the warning share over all tracked URLs. The score stays empty until at least one URL has been checked.

Get alerted when a page leaves the index

Whenever a tracked URL goes from indexed to not indexed, AutoPSEO records the change. Create an Index flip alert under Slack, Teams & Webhooks and those changes are sent to your channel; index alerts are evaluated every hour, unlike traffic alerts which run once a day, and ten or more changes at once are marked high severity (alerts).

When a page drops out, open it in URL Inspection and compare its coverage state, canonical and last crawl with the previous check. The FAQs on Crawled - currently not indexed and Discovered - currently not indexed cover the most common states.

How AutoPSEO helps

Add the addresses of articles the content engine delivered to see when Google picks them up; Index Tracker Reports then shows how long new pages take to enter the index on your site. Google explains in its URL Inspection API documentation which fields each check returns.
