How do I link Google Search Console to Google Analytics?
Google Search Console vs Other Tools
In Google Analytics 4, open Admin, choose Search Console links under Product links, select Link, pick your Search Console property and your web data stream, then submit. You need the Editor role on the GA4 property and must be a verified owner of the Search Console property. GA4 then gains two Search Console reports, which stay hidden until you publish them from the report Library.
Before you start
- GA4: the Editor role on the property. The same role is needed to delete the link later.
- Search Console: verified owner of the property. You can verify during the linking flow if you are not yet.
- The same pages: the Search Console property should cover the site your web data stream measures.
Link them step by step
- In GA4, open Admin and, under Product links, choose Search Console links.
- Choose Link.
- Next to Link to Search Console properties I manage, choose Choose accounts, select the property and confirm.
- Choose Next and select the web data stream for your site.
- Choose Next, review and submit.
Make the reports appear
The Search Console collection is unpublished by default. Open Reports, then Library, find the Search Console collection and publish it. Two reports appear:
- Google Organic Search Queries: your queries with Search Console clicks, impressions, CTR and position. You can only break these down by Search Console dimensions.
- Google Organic Search Traffic: landing pages with Search Console metrics next to GA4 metrics, broken down by country and device.
Limits worth knowing
- One to one. A web data stream links to one Search Console property, a Search Console property to one web data stream, and a GA4 property can have only one stream linked.
- Few dimensions mix. Search Console metrics combine only with GA4's landing page, device and country dimensions.
- No trend charts. The reports do not support time-series charts.
- Delay and depth. Data arrives in GA4 48 hours after Search Console collects it, and covers at most 16 months.
- History is not lost at linking. Data is available from whichever came later, the site's verification or the stream's creation, not from the day you link.
- Links cannot be edited. To change the property or stream, delete the link and create a new one.
Expect clicks and sessions to differ. A Search Console click is counted on Google, a GA4 session on your site after consent and tracking run, so the two measure different moments and rarely match. For when to use which tool, see Search Console vs Google Analytics.
How AutoPSEO helps
GA4's linked reports cannot show a trend or combine queries with conversions. AutoPSEO connects GA4 through the same Google sign-in with read-only access, pairs it with the Search Console property and offers a Blended report: Search Console pages joined with GA4 landing pages on the URL path, so each page shows clicks, impressions, CTR and position next to sessions, engagement rate, key events and revenue, with the change against the previous period. It also estimates each query's share of those outcomes from its share of the page's clicks. See connecting GA4.
