How often does Google Search Console update its data?
Common Questions
There is no single refresh time; each report has its own rhythm. Search performance data now arrives within a few hours: the 24-hour view Google added in December 2024 shows hourly figures with a delay of only a few hours. The newest numbers are preliminary, drawn as a dotted line, and settle into final figures after a few days. Indexing, Core Web Vitals and sitemap reports run on schedules of their own.
How fresh is the Performance report?
Three facts from Google's documentation explain almost everything you see in the Performance report:
- Hours, not days. Google's December 2024 announcement describes a 24-hour view covering the last available 24 hours, "with a delay of only a few hours", in the Search results, Discover and Google News reports. Google said the change cut the average data delay almost in half.
- Preliminary first, final later. The Performance report help says the newest data can still change in the next few hours and marks it with a dotted line. Google's 2019 freshness post adds that each fresh data point is replaced by the final one after a few days.
- Pacific Time days. Daily figures follow Pacific Time, so a "day" in Search Console will not line up exactly with a day in a tool set to your own time zone.
The report keeps 16 months of history, so the oldest day drops off as each new one arrives.
Why did yesterday's numbers change?
Because they were preliminary when you first looked. A small rise or fall in the last two or three days of a chart is usually collection catching up, not a real change in traffic. Compare complete weeks, or wait until the dotted line has turned solid, before reporting a trend.
If chart totals disagree with the sum of the table, that is a different effect: Google aggregates queries, countries and devices by property, but pages by page, and anonymised queries count in totals while being left out of the rows. See Google Search Console data delay and data retention for those questions.
How often do the other reports update?
| Report | How it updates |
|---|---|
| URL Inspection | The indexed view shows the version Google last crawled; Test live URL fetches the page now. |
| Page indexing | Changes as Google recrawls. Google publishes no interval, but says validating a fix typically takes up to about two weeks. |
| Core Web Vitals | Built from Chrome UX Report visits over the last 28 days, so a fix shows gradually; validation is a 28-day monitoring period. |
| Sitemaps | Google rereads a submitted sitemap at its own pace, independent of the site's crawl schedule. |
The Core Web Vitals row comes from Google's Core Web Vitals report help; the other rows summarise the help page for each report.
Does the API get the same fresh data?
Yes, if you ask for it. The Search Analytics API returns only finalised data unless you set dataState to all (fresh data included) or hourly_all (an hourly breakdown, with partial data flagged). Tools built on the API therefore show either settled numbers a few days behind, or fresher numbers that may still move.
How AutoPSEO helps
AutoPSEO requests finalised Search Console data, so a figure you put in a report does not move the next morning. For stored properties it syncs every day and keeps the rows after Search Console's 16-month window has passed (Administration). The Index Tracker re-inspects the URLs you choose once a day, so a page that drops out of the index shows up the day it happens rather than whenever you next open the Page indexing report.
