How does Google Discover appear in Search Console?
Performance Reports & Data
Discover has its own Performance > Discover report in Search Console, which appears only after your property reaches a minimum number of Discover impressions. Until then there is no menu item. The report shows clicks, impressions and CTR by page, country, Discover appearance and date, for up to 16 months. It has no queries and no position, because Discover recommends content to people rather than answering a search.
What the report shows
| Shows | Does not show |
|---|---|
| Clicks, impressions and CTR | Queries |
| Pages, countries and dates | Average position |
| Discover appearance: AMP articles, News Showcase, Web Stories, videos | Devices |
| A 24 hours view with hourly data | Anything below Google's privacy threshold in the table |
How it counts:
- An impression is recorded when a card scrolls into view, once per result per session.
- A click is recorded when someone opens the card. Sharing it or other actions on the card are not clicks.
- Pages are credited to their canonical URL, so duplicates show zero.
- The table stops at 1,000 rows, and rows below the threshold are left out of the table but still counted in the totals.
- Data usually arrives within two to three days, and the last two days can be preliminary.
Discover traffic in Chrome is included, along with every other surface where people use Discover.
Generative AI in Discover
Google added a Generative AI performance report for Discover in June 2026 and rolled it out to all sites on 31 August 2026. It shows how often your URLs appear in Google's generative AI features in Discover, by page, country and date. Google says this data is also counted in the overall performance reports, so it is a view onto the same traffic rather than extra traffic.
Why Discover traffic swings
Google describes Discover traffic as less predictable than search traffic and suggests treating it as a supplement. Interests change, the mix of topics Discover shows changes, and Search updates affect it, all without any change on your side. Reporting can also wobble: Google's data anomalies page records several Discover logging errors in 2026 alone, on 7 to 8 May, 21 May, 24 June and 13 August, each lowering reported clicks and impressions. Check that page before you chase a sudden drop.
How to earn more Discover visibility
No special tags are needed. A page must be indexed and meet Discover's content policies, and then:
- Use large images: at least 1,200 pixels wide and over 300,000 pixels in total, ideally 16:9, with large previews allowed through
max-image-preview:large. - Choose a representative image in
og:imageor structured data, not your logo or an image full of text. - Write titles that capture the story without clickbait or exaggeration.
- Publish timely, original work with a clear angle; Discover leans on many of the same quality signals as Search.
