How do I submit a single URL to Google Search Console?

Submitting & Indexing

Paste the full address into the URL Inspection search bar in Search Console and press Enter. When the result loads, click Request indexing. Google runs a quick check for obvious indexing errors and, if the page passes, adds it to its crawl queue. There is a daily limit on these requests, and a request is not a promise: Google may still decide not to index the page.

Step by step

  1. Open the property the URL belongs to. A URL outside the selected property cannot be inspected there.
  2. Paste the complete address, including https://, into the inspection bar.
  3. Read the verdict. "URL is on Google" means it is already indexed; "URL is not on Google" comes with a reason in the Page indexing section.
  4. If you have changed the page since the Last crawl date shown, click Test live URL to check the current version.
  5. Click Request indexing and wait for the confirmation message. Repeat the request only if you change the page again.

Google's URL Inspection help describes the same flow and adds one important rule: you cannot request indexing if the live test finds the page non-indexable.

When is a single URL worth submitting?

  • A new page that matters, such as a product launch or an article you want found this week.
  • A page you have substantially rewritten, so Google picks up the new version sooner.
  • A page where you fixed the problem Search Console reported, such as a stray noindex or a server error.

It is not worth submitting pages that are already indexed and unchanged, every page of a large site, or pages you want gone from Google. For removals, return a 404 or 410, or use the Removals tool for a temporary block.

How many URLs can I submit a day?

Google does not publish the number. It says only that there is a daily limit on indexing requests and a quota for submitting individual URLs, and its recrawl guide points you to a sitemap when you have more than a few. Two related limits often cause confusion:

  • The URL Inspection API allows 2,000 inspections per property per day, but it only reads index status. It has no way to request indexing.
  • The Indexing API is not a shortcut for normal pages: Google's Indexing API documentation limits it to pages with JobPosting or BroadcastEvent embedded in a VideoObject.

What happens after you click the button?

Google's help says indexing typically takes a day or so but can take up to a week or two. Requesting the same URL again does not make it faster. Use the inspection tool to follow progress; How long does it take for Google to index my pages? explains the wait, and Why is "Request Indexing" not working? covers a greyed-out button or a failed request. Submitting lots of pages at once? How do I submit a sitemap? is the better route.

How AutoPSEO helps

AutoPSEO's URL Inspection checks one URL, or up to 500 in a run from a file, a pasted list or a sitemap, through the URL Inspection API and keeps every result's history. Because the API cannot request indexing, each single result links straight to the same inspection in Search Console, where the button is. For Bing and the other engines that take IndexNow, AutoPSEO can notify them of new or changed URLs directly (IndexNow); Google is not among the engines that accept IndexNow.
