Can you use Google Search Console for YouTube?
Common Questions
Yes, for what happens on Google. Search Console now offers platform properties for YouTube channels (and for Instagram, TikTok and X), which show how your content performs in Google Search, Discover and Google News: clicks, impressions, CTR and average position. They don't cover anything that happens inside YouTube, such as views, watch time, subscribers or YouTube's own search box. That stays in YouTube Studio.
What a YouTube platform property shows
Google's help page About platform properties lists three reports:
- Performance: total clicks, impressions, average CTR and average position on Google, with a filter for individual posts. Discover and Google News data appear only if your videos get traffic there.
- Insights: recent trends, your top content and how people find it on Google Search.
- Achievements: milestones such as a total number of Search clicks.
A video that appears in Search or Discover counts as an impression, and a click counts even when it opens the video in Google's own viewer. Reports default to the last 28 days.
What it doesn't show
- Views, watch time and subscribers on YouTube itself.
- The terms people type into YouTube's search. In YouTube Studio, the Reach tab's "Traffic source: YouTube search" card lists those (YouTube Help).
- Indexing tools. Google describes performance and traffic reports for platform properties, not URL Inspection, sitemaps or indexing reports.
How to add your channel
- Open the property selector and click Add property, or start from the Search Console welcome screen.
- Click Add next to YouTube and follow the prompts. Ownership is confirmed through a website property you already have or by signing in to the platform.
- Once verified, click Go to property.
Repeat for each channel. Data takes a few days to appear, and Search Console re-checks the connection from time to time: if a login expires, re-verify and the reports carry on with their history intact. Google announced global availability on 29 July 2026, after a gradual rollout.
Videos embedded on your own website
Your website property is a separate matter. Its Video indexing report shows which indexed pages have a video Google could index; Google only indexes videos from pages whose main purpose is the video, one video per page, and the video may be hosted on another domain, such as an embedded YouTube player. Choose the Video search type in the Performance report to see how your pages do in Google's video results.
How AutoPSEO helps
AutoPSEO works with your website properties. Every report can switch to the Video search type and compare it with the previous period, month or year, so you can see whether the pages where you embed your videos are gaining ground in video results (filters and dates).
