Common reasons for verification failure:
- DNS changes haven't propagated yet - Wait 24-48 hours and try again
- HTML file was modified or renamed - Re-download and upload the exact file
- Meta tag isn't in the
<head>- Ensure it's before the closing</head>tag - robots.txt is blocking Googlebot - Temporarily allow access
- Wrong URL variation - Verify HTTP vs HTTPS or www vs non-www matches
